In 1929, in a small workshop in Glendale, California, Lloyd Langworthy had a better idea. Instead of installing gas appliances with rigid black pipe, the standard of the time, he invented and patented the flexible steel gas connector. So popular was the invention that it quickly became the accepted method of installation through out the U.S. The flexible connector not only saved time, installations that used to take hours were now done in minutes, but it also prevented catastrophic failure in the event of earthquakes.
